Used Vans in St Helens

Our forecourt is in St Helens — Haydock Cross Industrial Estate, off Kilbuck Lane in Haydock, WA11 9UX, two minutes from junction 23 of the M6. So if you are looking for a used van in St Helens, Haydock, Newton-le-Willows, Rainford or Billinge, you are not buying at a distance from us. You are buying from the yard down the road, and you can come and stand next to the van before you decide anything.

Where we are and when we are open

Haydock Cross sits between the A580 East Lancashire Road and junction 23 of the M6, which is why so much of the North West’s van trade passes through this corner of St Helens. From St Helens town centre it is about ten minutes up the A58; from Newton-le-Willows or Earlestown, less. There is proper parking, so you can arrive in your old van and leave in a new one without choreography.

We are open Monday to Saturday, and we can usually take a drop-off on a Sunday by arrangement. Ringing first on 0151 272 0326 is always worth it — vans sell quickly and a call means the one you want is out and ready rather than blocked in.

A local dealer, and what that should mean

Buying locally is only worth something if the dealer is still there afterwards. We are a registered limited company with a published record you can read for yourself on the Companies House register, and our reviews are on the site rather than hand-picked into a paragraph.

The practical benefit of local is aftercare. If something needs looking at in the first few months, you bring it back up the road rather than posting keys about. That is a real difference and it is the main reason people from St Helens buy here rather than online.

What we stock, and how we buy it

Medium panel vans are the backbone — the vehicles that the trades around here actually run — with small vans and larger long-wheelbase and Luton bodies alongside. We buy for the customers we have, not for a catalogue, so the same nameplates recur. One medium panel van model outsells everything else we stock, which tells you something about what works around here.

The stock list is live. If it is on there, it is here. If you already know the badge you want, the list filters by it — the Vauxhall Vivaros, the Ford Transit Customs, the full-size Ford Transits and the Peugeot Partners each have their own view.

How the vans are prepared before they go out

Every van is inspected, MOT’d with real time left on it, serviced where one is due, and the faults we find are fixed before it is advertised — not after somebody complains. You can check the MOT history of anything we sell for yourself on the DVLA’s MOT history service, and we would rather you did than take our word for it.

How to judge a used van dealer sets out what to look for in anyone selling you a van, us included. It is the guide we would want a member of our own family to read first.

What to bring on the day

Bring your driving licence if you want to drive one, and bring the V5C and any service history if you are part-exchanging. If you are buying through a limited company, bring the company details; if you are VAT registered, tell us at the start rather than at the end, because it changes the arithmetic on every figure we discuss. Insurance needs to be in place before you drive away, and you can normally arrange that on the phone while you are here. None of this takes long, but it is the difference between collecting a van in an hour and having to come back tomorrow.

Part-exchange, and selling your van outright

Most people arrive in something. We will value it against what you are buying, and you can get a figure before you set off with the valuation form. If you would rather sell and be done, we buy outright — the sell your van page explains that route. If your current van still has finance on it, that is routine; part-exchanging a van on finance explains what happens to the settlement.

Paying for it: finance, VAT and tax

You can pay outright or we can introduce you to finance. If you are deciding which, HP, PCP and leasing explained lays out the differences without jargon, and applying for van finance covers what a lender will ask you for. Any firm arranging finance should appear on the Financial Conduct Authority’s register — ours does, and so should anyone else’s.

Vans are usually sold plus VAT and reclaimable if you are registered, which changes the real cost substantially. Some are sold with no VAT at all — no-VAT vans explained covers why. Vehicle tax on a light commercial is a flat rate rather than a CO2 band, and the government’s vehicle tax tables are the authority on what you will actually pay.

Buying from further afield

Plenty of our customers are not from the North West at all. If you are reading this from outside St Helens, everything can be done remotely and the van delivered — but if you are close enough to come, come. Our Liverpool page and our Merseyside page cover the journey from the rest of the county, and our Wigan page covers the run down the A49.

Common questions

Where exactly are you in St Helens?

Haydock Cross Industrial Estate, Kilbuck Lane, Haydock, St Helens, WA11 9UX — two minutes from junction 23 of the M6 and just off the A580 East Lancashire Road.

Do I need to book to view a van?

No, but ring ahead on 0151 272 0326. Vans move fast and a call means the one you want is out, unblocked and ready to drive rather than parked in.

Can I test drive it?

Yes. Bring your driving licence. We would far rather you drove a van properly before you bought it than found something out afterwards.

What warranty comes with the van?

Every van goes out with a warranty; the details are on the warranty page. It starts the day you collect, not the day the van arrived with us.

Will you buy my van even if I am not buying one from you?

Yes. We buy outright as well as in part-exchange. Start with the valuation form and we will come back to you with a figure.
