We are a Merseyside van dealer in the literal sense: the forecourt is in Haydock, St Helens, which sits inside the county and within about half an hour of Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and the Wirral. Two in every five vans we have ever sold have gone to a Merseyside postcode. This page is the county-wide overview — where we are, what we stock, and what buying a used van in Merseyside actually involves.
The county, and where we sit in it

Merseyside is five boroughs — Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley, St Helens and Wirral — and we are at the eastern edge of it, on Haydock Cross Industrial Estate off Kilbuck Lane, WA11 9UX. That puts us next to junction 23 of the M6 and a minute from the A580 East Lancashire Road, which is why the journey from most of the county is motorway or dual carriageway rather than town traffic.
From Liverpool it is the M62 east; from Sefton and Bootle the A580; from Knowsley barely fifteen minutes; from the Wirral it is the tunnel then the M62, which is the longest run of the five and still comfortably under an hour. The Liverpool page and the St Helens page go into the routes in more detail.
What we stock

Medium panel vans first, because that is what the trades across this county run — then small vans for couriers and mobile services, and long-wheelbase and Luton bodies for the people who move things for a living. We buy for the customers we already have, which is why the same handful of nameplates keeps coming back rather than a scattering of one-offs.
The stock list is live, so it answers the only question that matters: what is actually here today. If it is not there, a van request gets us looking. If you already know the badge, the list filters by it — the Vauxhall Vivaros, the Ford Transit Customs, the full-size Ford Transits and the Peugeot Partners each have their own view.
Choosing the right size of van
The commonest expensive mistake is buying one size too small, discovering it a fortnight later, and paying to change. Wheelbase and roof height decide what fits far more than the badge does. Short, medium or long wheelbase is the guide that saves people that mistake, and small vans: which one covers the other end of the range. If you carry passengers as well as tools, crew cab vans is the one to read.
What a Merseyside van has usually been doing

Vans in this county tend to have led one of two lives: short urban runs around the boroughs, or long motorway stints down the M6 and M62. They wear differently. Urban vans are harder on clutches, flywheels and diesel particulate filters and softer on the engine; motorway vans are the reverse. Neither is automatically better, and mileage on its own will not tell you which you are looking at — the service history and the state of the clutch will.
Clean air zones and emissions
Emissions rules are set city by city and they change, so check rather than assume. The government’s clean air zone service lets you check a registration against every scheme in the country before you commit. If your work takes you into Manchester, Birmingham or London as well as around Merseyside, say so before you choose a van; picking the right engine standard first is far cheaper than swapping later. Should you buy a diesel van covers the wider question honestly.
VAT, tax and running costs
A van is normally sold plus VAT and is normally reclaimable if you are VAT registered, so the real cost to a business is often very different from the advertised figure. Some vans carry no VAT at all — no-VAT vans explained sets out why, and HMRC’s guidance on charging and reclaiming VAT is the authority. Vehicle tax on a light commercial is a flat rate rather than an emissions band, and real-world van fuel economy is a more useful guide to what a van costs to run than any brochure figure.
Part-exchange, and selling a van in Merseyside
We will take your current vehicle in part-exchange — van or car — and you can get a figure before you travel using the valuation form. We also buy outright, whether or not you are buying from us; the sell your van page explains how. If you are selling privately instead, remember to tell the DVLA — the government’s guidance on selling a vehicle sets out what you must do, and the paperwork to sell a van is our plain-English version.
Buying from anywhere in the county — or outside it
Everything can be done at a distance if you would rather not travel: we sell vans to buyers all over the country and plenty of our customers are from outside the North West entirely. But if you are in Merseyside, the forecourt is close enough to come and see, and seeing a van is always better than reading about one. Our van guides cover the rest of the decision.
Common questions
Which part of Merseyside are you actually in?
St Helens — Haydock Cross Industrial Estate, Kilbuck Lane, Haydock, WA11 9UX, beside junction 23 of the M6 and just off the A580.
How long does it take to get to you from the Wirral?
Usually under an hour: the tunnel, then the M62 east and off at junction 9. It is the longest journey of the five boroughs and it is still a comfortable morning.
Do you deliver, or do I have to collect?
Both are available. Most local buyers collect, but we sell and deliver across the country as a matter of routine, so distance is not an obstacle if you would rather not travel.
Can I part-exchange a car against a van?
Yes. Cars are fine. Use the valuation form to get a figure before you set off, and bring the V5C and any service history.
Will the van pass a clean air zone?
That depends on the van and the city, and it can change, so check the registration on the government’s clean air zone service rather than trusting any dealer’s blanket promise — ours included.
Do you sell to businesses as well as individuals?
Yes, and most of what we sell goes to sole traders and small businesses across the county. If you are VAT registered, say so early — it changes the arithmetic.
